Effective Ways to Fight Wrinkles

One of the most unpleasant things about aging is the fact that we end up with unattractive wrinkles that reveal the fact that we may not be so young anymore. There are plenty of things we can do to slow down the formation of wrinkles, such as eating healthily, drinking adequate water, and avoiding sun damage, but the fact remains that we will end up getting wrinkles eventually. The good news is that there are several ways we can combat wrinkles when they do appear, making us appear younger with glowing, smooth skin. Let’s briefly go over some things we can do to obtain healthier, smoother skin.

Topical Treatments

There are numerous options when it comes to things we can apply to the face to reduce wrinkles. Topical retinoids, derived from vitamin A, do a good job of reducing fine wrinkles, but be sure to wear sunscreen when you use them as they cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun’s rays. These creams work by replenishing the skin’s collagen, which is needed in order for the skin to be healthy and young-looking. Nonprescription wrinkle creams can also be effective if they are high in antioxidants, retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids, kinetin, CoQ10, or copper peptides, as these are relatively effective in treating fine wrinkles and firming the skin.

Applying topical vitamin C is a great way to boost collagen because it is high in antioxidants that fight sun damage. Creams and other topical treatments high in vitamin C are readily available to purchase, but you may also choose to use fruits you may have in the kitchen, which can be easier and less expensive. Lemon juice, papaya and pineapple are all items you can apply directly to the face and neck to help reduce wrinkles.

Surgical Procedures

Microdermabrasion – Oxide crystals are used to sand off the fine outer layer of the skin, called the epidermis, boosting collagen production and revealing newer, healthier skin.
Laser Treatments – A laser beam is used to remove the outer layer of skin and heat the underlying layer of skin, called the dermis. This boosts collagen production and reveals firmer, healthier skin.

Chemical Peel – Your doctor will apply acid to the outer layer of skin which will burn it and remove it, again revealing that newer, healthier dermis.
Botox – When injected into specific muscles, Botox blocks chemical signals within and around those muscles, causing them to be still without contracting. The muscle stays smooth and tight, so the skin flattens and appears smoother. These results can last up to four months, when the process can be repeated.

Soft Tissue Fillers – Fat, collagen or hyaluronic acid can be injected into the skin to help smooth out deep wrinkles and give the skin more volume. What is interesting is that a Dr. Ajaka has found that wrinkle-reduction injections also help with migraines and headachesin many patients because they relax the muscles and relieve tension.

Face Lift – A face lift is a more involved surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat, tightening the underlying muscles and connective tissues. The results of a face lift can last around ten years.
