Feelin’ Hot, Hot, Hot
Over the last week, every time I leave the house, it’s already in the 90s by 9am and I sing that ’80′s Buster Poindexter song to myself-and try to refrain from doing a little dance.
Almost over night it went from a chilly 70 degrees (what, that IS cold!) to high’s in the triple digits every day-and I love it! We have spent almost every minute we can soaking up this hazardously high heat. A few times, we’ve even let the kids jump in the pool in their pajamas; it’s just that hot that early.
So now that the heat of the desert has finally come back, I made a little pool-side treat for me and the kids. I made a granita based off of one of my kid’s favorite local juices: kiwi lime. It was light, refreshing, healthy and (most importantly) bikini friendly!

*I liked to be able to still see the kiwi seeds so I didn’t puree it until smooth. If you don’t want the seeds, you can strain the mixture through a sieve.

It rained here recently, however, you can still cut the humidity with a knife. Where the heck did spring go??
Anyhow I have been eyeing those fuzzy Kiwis toying around with some ideas. However, you landed on a winner. With the heat the way it is, this is a wonderful way to cool down. Ha-in the pool with your pj’s-sounds like the kids know how to cool down as well. With a pool and granita, that heat would not even be noticed! Enjoy the day!
This sounds great!! My kids love kiwis… so it’s been bookmarked.
This looks so fun, refreshing and delicious! Love the color, and is sounds wonderful sitting by the pool! Glad that I am not in the triple digit heat, I can’t take that.
This will be a sure hit in my home..
Totally bookmarked.
Wow, that is hot! Lucky you… actually, we’ve had a glorious couple days here too (knock on wood) so hopefully some good things are starting to happen and I’m all set for this gorgeous and refreshing granita… It looks so pretty too Alyssa! Love the kiwi seeds poking out

This looks sooo refreshing! Great post!
This is a wonderful way to eat kiwi!!! I don’t know any other way to eat kiwi but just peel and cut. Our family will be surprised when I serve this one day…
Love the color and kinda cute!
What a stunning granita! I also love the sweet-sour combo!
Easy to make, sweet and refreshing. This one’s a winner!
This is the perfect poolside treat! I like that you used honey too instead of a bunch of sugar!
The heat is definitely not for everyone! But I can’t the cold and snow either
Well my husband gives the kids candy all the time, so I have to cut it out when I can
