Dubai: A Trip of Firsts

As I contemplated what I wanted to say about my recent trip to Dubai for a food photography and styling course, I realized it was a trip of firsts for me:

First time leaving Bahrain since we arrived

First time being away from my kids for more than a few hours

First time using my camera in Manual mode

First time meeting other food bloggers (in person)

First photography lesson

First time taking notes since college

First time watching other food photographers at work

And there are so many more!  I had a wonderful time and learned so much.  Between the hospitality, the lessons, activities, and of course the food– I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience!

Ramona - Wow! What was this trip for? Did I miss something you mentioned in an older post? Was it blogger convention in Dubai? If so very cool! Let me tell you, your pictures are outstanding! This is why I have not invested in a Dslr yet… I need to take a class to use it. :) I am glad you had such an enjoyable and educating time.

Tina@flourtrader - I have never actually traveled at all for any type of food seminar. Just going to one in the city would make me happy! Lucky you for being able to make the trip and be able to attend the seminar. I imagine it was kind of like a rewarding event after blogging for so long!
Glad you enjoyed it.

Sandra's Easy Cooking - Wow..that sounds exciting! Would love to go on one of those seminars! Looks like you had great time….by the way great photos, Alyssa!

Erin @ Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts - You went to Dubai?! My husband would be extremely jealous! He really wants to go, and was trying to see if we could go there in October for a vacation. Unfortunately I think our son will be too young to really enjoy it (he will be 7 at the time). Also, it is a REALLY long way from Colorado :) Glad you had a great trip!

Lacy @ NYCityEats - Your photos are spectacular!! Looks like you learned a great deal in your class! I’m sure you had a wonderful time meeting other bloggers, sounds like a great trip!

Tiffany - Your firsts are so exciting! :D Especially using your camera in manual mode! :D

Stephanie @ Eat. Drink. Love. - Sounds like it was a great time!

alyssa - It was, I can’t wait to go back!

alyssa - It was, I can’t belive it’s taken me so long to do it!

alyssa - Thanks, I had hundreds of pictures, and it was hard to decide which ones to include!

alyssa - I sent you an email about Dubai!

alyssa - No, I didn’t mention it before… It wasn’t a convention, just a small class. Thanks for the kind words. And yes, DSLR is like a whole other world of photography :)

Tobias @ T and Tea Cake - What a great opportunity and it sounds like your were able to take a lot experience back home with you! I would love to see how other foodbloggers take pictures! I think it is kind of awkward when someone is with me but maybe it would be different being around people who share the same passion. ;)

Holly - Alyssa, Wow! Great photographs. I am impressed. I enjoyed reading about your “firsts” It was a great two days, but boy, I was really exhausted afterwards. So much information to process. I still haven’t tried out my new photography skills yet. The pressue is on! I will be keeping an eye on your blog. Meanwhile, good for you for using Manual mode. Again, I am impressed. Thanks for sharing this & happy blogging. Holly

Nami | Just One Cookbook - Alyssa, I was so excited to read your firsts! After having kids, it becomes hard to travel alone and leave them. I’m so proud of you! I need to take photography lesson too. I need strong determination and passion to convince myself signing up…

Baking Serendipity - Gorgeous pictures and such a cool trip! Dubai would be such a fun place to visit…and I love all of the firsts you celebrated there :)

Kelly @ Inspired Edibles - Eek! I’m totally jealous… I didn’t realize your trip to Dubai was for a food photography and styling course… How incredibly luxurious and enormously fun! What beautiful photos Alyssa… that second one is exquisite with vibrant colours and lovely composition. Good for you girl! (isn’t it exciting getting away from the little ones for just a bit when you know they’re in good hands?! ;-)).

alyssa - It really was great to get away for a bit and hang out with other people that like to take pictures of food :) Usually people think I’m strange for that!

Maggie @ Kitchie Coo - Oh, what a wonderful trip!! Your photos are absolutely stunning! I am jealous of the class you took, it looks like you’ve learned a lot, and of course experienced a lot of firsts which is fun. I would love to take a class like that and learn manual mode shooting.

alyssa - Thank you and it was a ton of fun!
